Recently Rosie Probyn held a exhibition called “Why I volunteer” . I choose to give my answer in 4 categories; experience, people, culture and freedom.
The people have been the most challenging part but also the most rewarding one. On one side people see what you’re doing and appreciate it, giving so much in return. One of the examples is when we work in the daycare center, where every problem brought up is taken seriously. The amount of gratitude from the children is unmeasurable and we’re fed with delicious food each visit. On the other side, there are people who take advantage of volunteers. These people expect you to do what you told and forget it’s for free. I’ve heard too many stories where the whole project goes down the drain and ends up helping someone’s private interest.

Description of the activity:
– For National Volunteering Week we wanted to make a contribution as an organisation so we created an exhibition called ‘Why I Volunteer’ which contained posters and
testimonies from individuals in the organisation and other foreign volunteers that I have
met.
– It now lives in Intelect Parc for people to look at and read with the aim of encouraging
young people to get involved in volunteering.
– We all created different, unique but equally creative posters explaining our own
circumstances to emphasise the variation within us and show that anyone can do it.
We had 9 posters from different people expressing their opinions and experience with
volunteering and we had many many quotes from people all over the world → we have
left it open for people to add more quotes too, making it more interactive and fun.
It’s now in Intelect Parc for the public to view.
What was achieved:
– We hope that youth will be encouraged to volunteer more and that they see the wide
variety of opportunities that are available to them.
– We wanted to show the enjoyment that can be gained from volunteering as well as the
personal growth and development for the future.
– It is ongoing so hopefully the achievements will continue!
